Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of April 24, 2023.
• On behalf of the Herndon Staff, I want to thank every individual, family, business, and church that donated money, brought food or gifts, or volunteered during Staff Appreciation Week. It was a great show of appreciation and love. I want to say a special thanks to the HMS PTSA Executive Board and Herndon’s Yearbook Staff, NJHS,and sponsor, Mrs. Katie Barr, for all their hard work during Staff Appreciation Week.
• Herndon was well represented at ArtBreak. Each school is scored by their participation, and I am excited to say that Herndon received a grade of 100 %. The following students won awards and/or monetary prizes: Literary Award Winners - Kaira Brown, Dennis Welch, Dakota Flynn, Mia Anderson ($50.00 award), and Koda Hale ($100.00 award). Visual Award Winners - Michelle Jiang ($100.00 award), Mallie Nuss ($100.00 award), Lundyn Johnson ($50.00 award), and Melanie Posey ($50.00 award). Herndon’s Book Battle Team of Catherine Steiner, Michelle Jiang, Jacob Liu, Lyntravion Hewitt, Charli Moon, Sophie Falgout, and their sponsor, Mrs. Audrey Sullivan, finished in the top five.
• Congratulations to Jahzi Strickland. Jahzi won first place in both the discus and shot put last week. Jahzi is Herndon’s Caddo Middle Schools’ Discus and Shot Put Champion!
• LEAP Week is here. We begin testing Wednesday, April 26. We will test April 26-28 and May 1-2. We need the students here every day. During testing, no student will need a backpack. In addition, we need students to leave phones, smart watches, ear buds, and/or anything that is Blue Tooth or internet accessible at home. We are asking that students in grades 3-8 bring an AR book to read during wait times.
• Information about the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Camp for boys ages 9-12 is in the front office at Herndon. The camp will run from June 11-14, and the deadline to register is May 15, 2023.
