Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of October 23, 2023.
• Report Cards will be sent home tomorrow, October 23, unless your student owes for a library book or had overdue library books. Please sign and return the yellow copy to your student’s homeroom teacher on Tuesday, October 24. Your student will receive the official copy when the yellow copy is returned. This week, some students will be receiving contract warning notices for academics, attendance, and/or behavior. Please sign contract warning notices and return to your student’s homeroom teacher.
• There will be a Math Night for grades K-2 tomorrow, October 23, and grades 3-5 on Tuesday, October 24, for parents and students that signed up. The times for both nights are from 5:45 – 7:00 PM.
• The kindergarten classes are selling Popcorn Boo Bags! Each bag is $1.00. The last day to purchase a Boo Bag is Thursday, October 26.
• The Lady Hawks softball team will play North Caddo at Northwood at 5:00 PM tomorrow, October 23. They will play a make-up game against Walnut Hill at Southwood High School on Wednesday, October 25, at 5:30 PM. They will play again on Thursday, October 26, at Northwood against Turner at 5:30 PM. The price of admission is $5.00, and alltickets must be purchased at https://www.locallevelevents.com/events/.The make- up game against Northside will be at 5:30 PM on October 30at Northwood High School.
• The Hawks Football team will be in action against North Caddo Middle School on Tuesday, October 24, at North Caddo High School Stadium. The game will start at 5:00 PM, and the cost of admission is $5.00 per person. All tickets must be purchased at www.locallevelevents.com.
• All Halloween activities at Herndon will be on Friday, October 27. Students may dress in their Halloween Costumes that follow CPSB policy. All costumes must be age appropriate and family friendly. If participating on Oct. 27, please adhere to the following: No Plastic Masks or costume masks; No Face Paint that makes student unrecognizable; No Political Costumes; and NO Imitation Weapons of Any Kind. The principal or principal designee will have the final say on whether the costume meets CPSB policy.
• 2nd grade will have their Book Parade on Friday, October 27 around 8:30 AM.
• There will be a K-8 pumpkin contest Friday morning, and a middle school social at 2:40 PM on Friday, October 27.
• We have had to change Grandparents Days from November 9 & 10 to November 8 & 9. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Sign up information will be coming out soon.
• Herndon Yearbooks are on sale now at www.locallevelevents.com. This is an early bird special for $50 with free personalization. The early bird special ends November 17, 2023.
• Family Fun Night is Thursday, November 2, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased at www.locallevelevents.com.
• Elementary and Middle Magnet Applications are now available on the CPSB website until January 5, 2024. You can also find information on Herndon’s website on the “Home” page. Testing will be in January and February. Please help us spread the word about HERNDON MAGNET SCHOOL.
• A-Wing students need to keep a change of clothes in their backpack for “just in case” accidents and/or emergencies.
