Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of April 22, 2024.

 

• We have had three great days of LEAP testing. We will continue testing tomorrow and Tuesday, April 22-23I am asking students to leave their cell phones and smart watches at homeStudents in grades 3-8 will not need their backpacks during LEAP testing days,but they will need a book to read for after testing. 
• If you have not done so already, please send back the signed Fourth nine weeks progress report that went home last Tuesday and Wednesday, April 16 and April 17.
• We want to wish the best to the Lady Hawks Soccer Team as theyplay their last game tomorrow, April 22, at 5:30 PM against Providence. This game will be played at Freedom Field in Bossier City, and it will determine third place in the Northwest Louisiana Soccer League. 
• We want to wish the best to Richard Morton as he competes in the 800 meter run at the City Track and Field Championship tomorrow at Lee Hedges. The running events will begin at 5:30 PM.
• The Herndon Elementary Battle of the Books team placed 6th out of 29 teams! This was their first year to compete, and we are looking forward to next year's competition. The team members are Hayes Corbell, John Courtney, Justin Jiang, Christina Mitchell, Gadin Wall, and Mason Rowland.  The team’s sponsor was Mrs. Amy Deschler, Herndon’s Elementary Librarian.
• Congratulations to 8th grader Shelby Holt. Shelby finished 22nd in the 4-H State .22 Rifle Shooting Contest out of 73 state competitors.
• The 6th Grade Exploration Fair will be held Thursday night, April 25. The Fair will begin in the auditorium at 6:00 PM.
• The annual 8th Grade Trip is this Friday, April 26. The $75.00 is due by tomorrow, April 22, and must be paid on Local Level. They will be departing Brookshire’s on North Market at 6:00 AM sharp. Please be early because the bus cannot wait.
• Cheer Camp begins Friday, April 26, and again April 29-May 1, with try-outs on Thursday, May 2.
• A word on buses and the Transportation Department: Please understand that Herndon has no control over bus routes, drivers, pick-up and drop off times, etc. We offer advice, common sense solutions and suggestions to the Transportation Department, and we make complaints to the Transportation Department, but ultimately, all decisions are made at, and by, the Transportation Department.
