Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of May 6, 2024.
• I want to thank everyone who came out to Field Day on May 3, and a special thanks to the PTSA Board and all the parent and student volunteers.
• Congratulations to the Herndon Magnet School PTSA and HMS counsellors, Ms. Kioki Ross and Mrs. Kelli Carlisle, on Herndon beingselected to receive a $750.00 Healthy Minds Grant from the Louisiana State PTA. The implementation of Herndon’s grant, "Healthy Hawk Minds Soaring Everyday" Mental Health Fair, will be held in the fall of 2024.
• All elementary students that pre-ordered a wristband for Field Day, or bought one the day of Field Day, may wear street clothes tomorrow, May 6. All clothes must meet CPSB Dress Code Policy.
• Invitations for students being honored at the EOY Awards ceremony will be sent home with students tomorrow, May 6. This ceremony will be Monday, May 13, at 6:00 PM in the auditorium.
• 2024-2025 Magnet Contracts will be sent home with students tomorrow, May 6, and MUST be returned by Friday, May 10. If your K-7 grade student is not returning to Herndon, please state that on the contract. Contracts are not valid until a final review of academics, attendance, and behavior.
• All levels of the HMS Band will perform Tuesday, May 7, at 6:00 PM in the gym.
• Students who purchased a 2024 ArtBreak t-shirt may wear street clothes on Tuesday, May 7. All clothes must meet CPSB Dress Code Policy.
• The current NJHS will host the Induction Ceremony for the 2024-2025 members on Tuesday, May 6, at 1:30 PM in the auditorium.
• The 5th Grade DARE graduation will be held in the auditorium on Wednesday, May 8, at 10:00 AM.
• Herndon alumni who will be graduating high school this year are invited for a senior walk through the halls of Herndon on Thursday, May 9, at 10:00 AM.
• The 4th and 5th grade, under the direction of Ms. Maranda Stewart, will have a music performance on Thursday, May 9, at 6:00 PM in the auditorium.
• The HMS Highsteppers’ Spring Show will be Thursday, May 9, at 7:00 PM in the gym.
• Almost Anything Goes Day (AAGD) for middle school will be held Friday, May 10. Tickets for activities and food must be purchased on Local Level. No K-12 students from other schools (Private, Public, Charter, Home School, etc.) can be at AAGD unless they have been authorized to work with the HMS PTSA.
• Middle school band members who met the requirements, and who paid on Local Level, will travel to Magic Springs on Saturday, May 11.
• Softball tryouts for the 2024 Lady Hawks Softball Team will be held at Northwood High School’s Softball Field on Saturday, May 11, at 10:00 AM. The tryouts are open to any current Herndon 4th-7thgrade girls and any new to Herndon girls who have signed a magnet contract for the 2024-2025 school year. Please bring all your equipment to tryouts.
