Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of November 4, 2024.

• Students are out of school tomorrow and Tuesday. They return to school on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
• I want to officially congratulate Herndon’s 5th Grade and 8thGrade Student of the Year Finalists. For 5th grade the finalists were: Hayes Corbell, John Courtney, Abigail Ezernack, Joanna Leskova, Alanea Maples, and Aliyah Maples. The 5th Grade Student of the Year is Hayes Corbell.For 8th grade the finalists were: Kennslee Berry, Sophie Falgout, Corbin Greis, Clay Gulett, Michelle Jiang, Charli Moon, and Ivan Zimmerman. The 8th grade Student of the Year is Sophie Falgout.
• Congratulations to Herndon’s 2024-2025 Teachers of the Year. For elementary the TOY is Mrs. Kystal Nuss, and for middle school, the TOY is Miss Sally Dickerson. Congratulations to Herndon’s Support Person of the Year Mrs. Vicki Young. Congratulations to Miss Jennifer DePriest for being nominated for the Assistant Principal of the Year for the Louisiana Association of Principals.
• We want to wish the best to Ms. Arnese Brass and her Louisiana Choral Directors Association Honor Choir students (Klaire Mars, Hallie McNease, Anna Ryan, EvelynWard, G’Liyah Davenport, and Laila Parson) as they perform in New Orleans on November 9, 2024. If you would like to make a donation to help them with hotel and travel expenses, you can make a donation through Mrs. Johnson in the office.
• Second grade will be visiting Safety Town on Wednesday and Thursday, November 6 and 7. Mrs. Mathews class will go on Wednesday, and Mrs. Greis and Mrs. Hobbs classes on Thursday.
• The deadline to sign up for Grandparents Day is Thursday, November 7, by 8:00 AM.
• The Lady Hawks Softball Team will play in the Championship Game on Wednesday, November 6, at 6:00 PM against Walnut Hill. The game will be played at Captain Shreve, and all tickets must be purchased on Local Level. The championship tickets are $10.00 each.
• On Friday, November 8, we will have a Snow Cone Day. All snow cones are $6.00 and must be purchased on Local Level.
• There is still time to sign up on Local Level for Parent’s Night Out on Friday, November 8.
• Herndon yearbooks will be on sale three times this year! From now until November 15, we are having an “Early Bird Sale,” and the yearbook price is $55 with free personalization.
• Herndon’s school-wide Turkey Trot Fundraiser is in full gear. We are trying to raise funds to purchase a digital sign for the front of the school, and to do some other upgrades for students, faculty/staff, and guests that come on campus.
• Elementary and Middle Magnet Applications are now available on the CPSB website until January 10, 2025. Testing will be in January and February. Please help us spread the word about HERNDON MAGNET SCHOOL,an A rated school. If you know someone who would like to tour the school, please have them call 221-7676.
