Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of November 11, 2024.
• Thank you to all the Veterans that served in the United States Armed Forces and thank you to all who are actively serving!
• Congratulations to The Lady Hawks Softball Team on a great season! They finished the season as Caddo Parish Middle School Championship Runner Up with a record of 9-3. A special thanks to Coach Stewart, Coach James, and Coach Sparaco, and to all the great softball parents and grandparents!
• Congratulations to Mrs. Victoria Lacy, Herndon’s Band Director, and the following students who were chosen to represent Herndon at the District VIII Honor Band in January: Autumn O’Rourke, Sophia Griffin, Easton Reynolds, Dylan O’Rourke, Ivan Zimmerman, Landen Jones, and Taylor Lemon.
• Congratulations to 5th grader Hayes Corbell and 8th grader Sophie Falgout! They are district finalists for Caddo’s Students of the Year. Congratulations to Miss Sally Dickerson! She is a district finalist for Middle School Teacher of the Year.
• Congratulations to Evelyn Ward and her Choir teacher, Ms. Arnese Brass! Evelyn auditioned at the State Honor Choir and was chosen to sing a solo with the Treble Choir!
• Grandparents Days for those who registered are Wednesday, November 13 (2nd grade 11 am, 1st grade 12:15 pm, and Kinder 1:30 pm), and Thursday, November 14 (5th grade 11 am, 4th grade 12:15 pm, and 3rd grade 1:30 pm).
• The Book Fair runs from Monday, November 11, through Friday, November 15.
• Progress Reports for the second nine weeks will come home on Thursday, November 14.
• All Herndon’s basketball teams will be in action at home on Thursday, November 14, against Keithville.
• Field Trips this week include 5th grade to Louisiana State Museum and Ag Magic and 4th and 6th 4-H to Ag Magic at the La State Fair on Friday, November 15.
• Hawk Treats will be Friday, November 15.
• Herndon yearbooks “Early Bird Special” ends on November 15. The “Early Bird Special” yearbook price is $55 with free personalization.
• Herndon’s school-wide Turkey Trot Fundraiser is in full gear. We are trying to raise funds to purchase a digital sign for the front of the school, and to do some other upgrades for students, faculty/staff, and guests that come on campus.
• Elementary and Middle Magnet Applications are now available on the CPSB website until January 10, 2025. Testing will be in January and February. Please help us spread the word about HERNDON MAGNET SCHOOL,an A rated school. If you know someone who would like to tour the school, please have them call 221-7676.
