Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of February 3, 2025.

 

• Congratulations to Mrs. Victoria Lacy and the 6th graders who were selected for the 2025 Caddo Parish Beginner Honor Band: Lyric Strickland, Olivia Reeves, Christina Mitchell, Cohen Lummus, Ethan Spinks, Scarlett Byles, Aiden Braden, and Caleb Bennett.
• I want to thank all the students who participated in the Gator Games on Saturday, January 25, 2025, and their sponsor, Mrs. Rachel Corbell. The following students did a fantastic job and represented Herndon well: Gadin Wall, Gavin Verdun, Avery Chaffin, Olivia Reeves, Evangeline O’Neal, Gia Verdun, Alivia ZeinerJenli ChesshirChristina Mitchell, Jude Beck, Beretta James, Caleb Bennett, Paisley Johnson, Marci Jordan, Sophia Nguyen, and Huien Chen. Gavin, Sophia, and Huien received gift cards for placing among the highest scoring teams.
• February is Black History Month, and it is a time to celebrate and honor the rich history, achievements, and contributions that African Americanshave made, and are still making, to the United States.
• The Lady Hawks Soccer Team will play their first game tomorrow at North Caddo High School Stadium against Lakeside. All soccer games at home and away will start at 6:00 PM. All home game tickets must be purchased on Local Level. The costs for home game tickets is $6.00.
• Basketball games this week: Feb. 3 – 6th and 7th grade boys’ teams vs. Keithville at Home; Feb. 4 – Girls and 8th grade boys’ teams at Karnack; and Feb 5 – 6th, 7th, and 8th grade boys’ teams at Youree.
• Third nine weeks progress reports will come home Thursday, February 6. Please sign and return to homeroom on Friday, February 7.
• The NJHS and Quest for Success will travel to LSU-S on Thursday, February 6, for a Junior Achievement event.
• The HMS PTSA will host Hawk Treats on Friday, February 7, instead of February 20.
• Herndon members of the Elementary and Middle School Honor Choir will perform Friday, February 7 at 6:00 PM at Summer Grove Baptist Church.
• The Daddy-Daughter Dance will be held Friday, February 7 at 6:00 PM.
• The Captain Shreve Z Club welcomes all elementary girls for fun, crafts, and community service on Saturday, February 8, from 9 AM – 12 PM in the Captain Shreve Gym. Costs and registration information will be sentin a JText message following this call.
• North Caddo Magnet High School will host an Open House for 8th graders on Saturday, February 8, from 2 PM – 4 PM.
• The HMS Office has partnered with New Beginnings in Vivian for Valentine Deliveries on Thursday, February 13. This partnership is only through New Beginnings because they know the guidelines on what is acceptable and not, and it is only for February 13. This fundraiser will go into the PBIS account for student incentives.
• We have had several cases of the flu and strep throat at Herndon. If your child is sick, please keep them home. Please talk to your children about washing their hands frequently and covering their coughs and sneezes.
