Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of September 6, 2022.
· I hope everyone had an enjoyable Labor Day! We look forward to seeing you back at school tomorrow.
· Since we are at the mid-first nine weeks, I wanted to remind parents and guardians about attendance and making sure your child is at school on time. Daily attendance is vital to your child’s success. Plus, the magnet contract states that magnet students will have a 90 % attendance rate, and this is with both excused and unexcused absences. If your student is a car rider, we need them here by 7:50 AM, and if they eat breakfast, we need them here by 7:40 AM. This will give elementary time to get settled and started on bell work. This will give middle school students some time to visit, and then get what they need from their lockers without being rushed.
· The Lady Hawks Softball Team will play a scrimmage game tomorrow against CMM. This game will be played at Captain Shreve’s softball field at 6:00 PM.
· We will send information home with students tomorrow about the Miles for Smiles dental program. If your child does not have a regular dentist, this is a wonderful program, and students receive their dental services at school.
· First nine weeks progress reports will be sent home Wednesday, September 7. Please go over these with your child, sign, and return to school by Friday, September 9.
· On Thursday, September 8, we will have a special night at Herndon. From 6:00 PM - 6:15 PM, parents and guardians that did not get to attend “Meet Your Teachers” will have an opportunity to greet teachers and walk through classrooms. This will not be a time for conferences or to talk about anything class related. At 6:15 PM, we will do an all call for everyone to gather in the auditorium for a 6:21PM “Kickoff” celebration. We will be celebrating all current 4th – 8th grade Herndon students that scored mastery or advanced on any 2022 LEAP tests taken at Herndon. We will look forward to seeing you Thursday night! GO HAWKS!!
· A-Wing students need to keep a change of clothes in their backpack for “just in case” accidents and/or emergencies.
· All class fees were due by Friday, September 2. If you need to set up a payment plan, please contact Mrs. Johnson at 221-7676. · Please visit Herndon’s website at herndonmagnet.caddoschools.org or the Herndon Facebook page for additional information about upcoming activities and events.
A transcript of this call can be found at herndonmagnet.caddoschools.org. Thank you and have a wonderful evening! ID #: 587296
