Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the weeks of October 3 and October 17, 2022:

  • The HMS NJHS will be working at the Red River Revel tomorrow, October 3; the 2nd grade will have a field trip to the Dixie Corn Maze on Thursday, October 6; and the 4th grade will have a field trip to the Revel on Friday, October 7.
  • The Lady Hawks softball team will host Walnut Hill at Northwood High School tomorrow, October 3, and will be the visitors against North Caddo Middle School on Tuesday, October 4 at North Caddo High School. Both games start at 5:00 PM. The Lady Hawks softball team will host Turner at Northwood High School on Monday, October 17, and will be the visitors against Donnie Bickham on Thursday, October 20. Both games start at 5:00 PM. All tickets for softball must be purchased at locallevelevents.com.
  • The Herndon PTSA Spirit Wear Store with winter wear items is open until October 8 at herndon.itemorder.com/shop/home/.
  • There will be a 4-H meeting for middle school on Tuesday, October 4, at 2:30 PM and for grades 4-5 on Tuesday, October 18 at 2:30 PM.
  • The Herndon Choir is selling Double Good Popcorn from October 4-8 to help pay for trips and their performance of “A Christmas Wizard of Oz” on December 15, 2022. Please see any choir member to order. The choir is also taking donations to help pay for these events as well as help Herndon’s honor choir recipients travel to New Orleans, Louisiana, from October 27-29, 2022.
  • The Hawks football team will travel to Ringgold on Tuesday, October 4. The game will start at 5:30 PM, and the cost of admission is $5.00. The Hawks will be in action on Tuesday, October 18 against North Caddo Middle School. The game will start at 5:30 PM, and tickets must be purchased at locallevelevents.com.
  • Miles for Smiles will be servicing Herndon students on Thursday, October 6.
  • Caddo schools will be closed for Fall Break from October 10-14. Students return from Fall Break on Monday, October 17, and the second nine weeks will begin this date as well.
  • Elementary and Middle Magnet Applications are now available on the CPSB website until January 6, 2023. You can also find information on Herndon’s website on the “Home” page. Testing will be in January and February. Please help us spread the word about HERNDON MAGNET SCHOOL.
  • Fall sports teams will take pictures on Thursday, October 20. We will also do school make-up pictures this day.
  • Please help us spread the word about Open House at Herndon on Thursday, October 20 at 6:00 PM. This night is for anyone interested in joining the Herndon Family for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond.
  • The Herndon Cross Country Team will compete in the Bossier District Championship at Palmetto Country Club in Benton on Thursday, October 20 at 4:00 PM, and they will compete in the Middle School Championship at Turner Middle School on Saturday, October 22.
  • Herndon Yearbooks are on sale now at www.locallevelevents.com. This is an early bird special for $50 with free personalization.
  • Friday, October 7, is a street clothes day for students. Please see guidelines on page 6 of the student agenda or on the website under documents and with the title “DRESS CODE FOR STREET CLOTHES DAY.” I want to remind parents and students that there should be no headwear or headgear worn at school, which includes hats and bandanas. Please see page 5 of the student agenda for additional information.
  • Please ask your student what Herndon’s School-Wide Expectations are and see if they can tell you what each letter stands for in HAWKS. If we can all abide by the K and the S, there should never be a problem with student-to-student interaction.
  • The first nine weeks ends on Friday, October 7. First nine weeks report cards will go home on Friday, October 21.
  • Entry forms and fees for the 2022 Elementary Dance Clinic are due Friday, October 7.
