Hello Parents and Guardians of Herndon Magnet School Students, this is Tom Thomas, Principal of Herndon Magnet School with Herndon Highlights for the week of February 13, 2023.
• I want to thank all the 8th grade parents that helped make Mardi Gras a success on Friday, February 10. 8th grade boys must return all tuxedo pieces and shoes tomorrow morning.
• Information about the annual World’s Finest Chocolate Bunnies and Almond Sale will come home this week. As a parent of three former Herndon Hawks, I understand that there are many fundraisers that take place at Herndon that pay for, or offset the costs of, activities, events,programs, sports teams, trips, equipment, etcetera, or to donate to specific causes. I do not want you to feel obligated to participate in every fundraiser. However, please know that fundraisers are the main way we are able to fund and enhance the aforementioned.
• The 6th grade boys’ basketball team will play at home tomorrow, February 13, at 5:30 PM against Youree Drive. The 6th and 8th grade boys’ teamswill play Force at home on Thursday, February 16. The first game will start at 5:30 PM and the second game will start immediately afterwards.
• The Lady Hawks soccer team will play North DeSoto tomorrow, February 13, at North DeSoto High School Stadium at 7:00 PM. They will playYouree Drive on Thursday, February 16, at Airline Stadium at 5:30 PM.
• Tuesday, February 14, is a PTSA Dress-Up Day for students who have paid at locallevelevents.com. Students may wear jeans with a Valentine’sor Mardi Gras top. All clothes must meet CPSB Dress Code Policy.
• Thursday, February 16, is a Street Clothes Day for students unless they lost that privilege for not following requirements for past Spirit/Street Clothes Days or PTSA Dress Up Days. Leggings of any kind or type are not allowed unless they have something over them that is no more than 4 inches above the knees all the way around. There can be no holes or tears in clothes that reveal clothes or skin underneath.
• Middle school students will participate in “Hoops for Heart” on Thursday, February 16, beginning between 8:15 – 8:30 AM.
• Third grade will have their Mardi Gras Parade and Taste of Louisiana on Thursday, February 16, starting at 12:00 noon.
• Thursday, February 16, is the school-wide 8th Grade Mardi Gras Parade. Everyone is invited to attend. K-7th grade students need to bring a bag to collect candy, beads, and other Mardi Gras throws. The parade will start at 1:45 PM in the back parking lot of the school.
• Schools will be closed for Winter Break on Friday, February 17, and Monday, February 20. Students return to school on Tuesday, February 21. I hope that everyone will enjoy this break and be safe.
• There will be an 8th Grade Night at North Caddo Magnet High School on February 28 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This will be a great opportunity to check out North Caddo Magnet High School.
