🌟 Youree Drive Middle School Student Council Shines at LASC Conference! 🌟 This weekend, the YDMS Student Council proudly represented the Spartans at the Louisiana Association of Student Councils (LASC) conference! Our students attended inspiring sessions and workshops, learning valuable skills to become stronger leaders for our school community. Our Spartans showcased their creativity, leadership, and hard work, earning several honors: 🏆 8th grader William Prim won 1st place in photography with a stunning photo capturing the essence of leadership. 🏅 STUCO President Kelsey Samuel placed 3rd in oratory, delivering a powerful speech on what it means to lead. ✍️ 8th grader Makaylen Gardner wrote an incredible essay on the qualities of effective leadership. 🎨 8th grader Kylee Lloyd created a beautifully hand-painted poster representing this year’s theme, “Lights on Leadership.” We’re also thrilled to announce that YDMS, recognized as a Gold Star Member of LASC for our charitable contributions, high engagement, and community involvement, has been awarded a scholarship for one STUCO member to attend the LASC Summer Workshop in 2025 at Northwestern State University! 💡 Students! 🖤💛Spartans stay warm and safe! 🖤💛 All Caddo Parish schools and district sites will be closed on Friday, January 10, due to the latest weather forecasts from the National Weather Service and consultation with Caddo Parish emergency response agencies. Current forecasts indicate that the winter weather has the potential to create hazardous road conditions, expected to persist overnight and into Friday morning. The district continues to encourage stakeholders to stay informed by following local weather updates and checking media outlets for the latest information on this week’s winter weather.

Appropriate Outerwear Guidelines As the weather gets colder, please make sure your student is dressed in accordance with the YDMS outerwear policy: ✅ Allowed: • Solid Colors (black, white, navy, grey) • Zipper jackets, sweatshirts, quarter-zip jackets, and jean jackets in solid colors with no hoods. • Non-YDMS/Spartan logos must not exceed 2 x 2 inches in size. • Beanies (removed inside) 🚫 Not Allowed: • Hoodies, zipper hoodies, and light jackets with hoods. 🧥 Special Note: Heavy winter coats (with or without hoods and any color) are allowed outside only when the temperature is below 45°F. Captain Shreve will provide IOWA testing for 8th grade students whose test scores do not meet the qualifications for magnet: 730 or better on ELA LEAP 730 or better on math LEAP NPR 50% or better on a standardized test Pre-ACT English or Reading 17 or better Pre-ACT Math 16 or better The test will be given on Saturday, February 1.
