Featuring spirit groups, student athletes and bands reminiscent of the Friday night lights the stadium will see this fall, Willis Knighton Health and Caddo Parish Public Schools celebrated the reopening of Lee Hedges Stadium on Thursday with a pep rally and ribbon-cutting event.
The celebration recognized the $4 million in renovations made possible by the generosity of Willis Knighton Health. The renovations were made to enhance both the athlete and patron experiences and included training areas to complement the athletic trainers and sports medicine team provided by Willis Knighton as part of its exclusive agreement with Caddo Schools as the district’s sports medicine provider. The construction also doubled the size of locker rooms to accommodate entire athletic teams, updated restrooms and water stations throughout the complex, and created family restrooms on both the home and visitor sides.
“Willis Knighton Health is proud to be part of making upgrades to Lee Hedges Stadium, providing financial support to renovate restrooms, locker rooms, medical exam rooms and other accommodations,” said Jaf Fielder, Willis Knighton president and CEO. “As the exclusive sports medicine provider for Caddo Schools, we are committed to providing enhanced healthcare opportunities for student athletes. These upgrades will enhance their experience as well as the experience of everyone who attends future events at the stadium.”
Named after famed football coach Lee Hedges in 2001, the stadium serves as the home venue for C.E. Byrd, Captain Shreve, Caddo Magnet High and Southwood teams. Sports played at Lee Hedges include football, soccer, lacrosse and track and field.
"Today, as we unveil the numerous renovations made at Lee Hedges Stadium, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Willis Knighton Health,” said Dr. T. Lamar Goree, Superintendent of Caddo Schools. “Their remarkable generosity and commitment to our community have made this day possible. Willis Knighton has truly shown what it means to be a partner in building a brighter future. On behalf of our students, athletes and the entire Caddo community, I express our deep gratitude. This incredible support will enrich the experiences of our students and their families as well as our coaches and staff."
