B Rating

Caddo Parish is officially a ‘B’-rated school district, according to information released Wednesday by the Louisiana Department of Education. The increase in letter grade moves Caddo to its highest ranking in the history of the state’s accountability system.

The annual school and district performance release shows Caddo continuing its districtwide improvements with a 2.1-point increase in the overall district performance score, above the state increase over the same period. Caddo’s growth makes the district the top-performing large urban school system in the state. In all, 36 schools increased student performance with nine schools increasing performance by a letter grade.

In addition, 15 schools were named as Top Gains schools by LDOE, a designation given to schools that demonstrate exceptional student progress and ensure that students meet or exceed their learning goals each year, and nine schools were recognized as Opportunity Honorees, an honor given to schools in the highest tier of progress for special education, English language learners and students living in poverty.

Four Caddo schools also were commended as being among the top in the state. Caddo Middle Magnet was recognized once more as the top middle school in Louisiana with Eden  Gardens Fundamental Elementary and South Highlands Elementary Magnet highlighted among the top 10 of elementary schools. Caddo Parish Magnet High School also was honored as the top 9-12 high school in Louisiana.

“This is a proud and historic moment for Caddo Parish, and it belongs to our students, teachers, staff, and the entire community,” said Superintendent Keith Burton. “Achieving a ‘B’ rating marks a significant milestone and reflects the tireless work of every individual in our district. From implementing high-quality instructional practices to ensuring that all students are equipped with the tools to succeed, these results demonstrate what is possible when we come together with a shared vision of excellence.”

Wednesday’s announcement also saw two schools come out of academically unacceptable status, Fair Park Middle School and Broadmoor STEM Academy. These results are due to efforts made before state intervention in May 2023 and highlight the work of the staff members at the campuses in the 2023-2024 school year.

A cornerstone of the district’s work, Caddo has made a concerted effort to ensure students’ classroom experiences are anchored in high-quality instruction delivered by excellent teachers using top-rated materials. This includes a laser focus on enhancing literacy and numeracy proficiency across the district following national best practices and research including the science of reading.

“The progress we celebrate today reaffirms that when we prioritize high expectations and meaningful support, our students and educators rise to the occasion,” Burton said. “Together, we will continue to build on this momentum and ensure that every child in Caddo Parish has access to the high-quality education they deserve.”

Since 1999, the Louisiana Department of Education has issued school performance scores for public schools based on factors including student achievement data.
