Tuesday, the Caddo Parish School Board recognized several significant achievements for our students and staff! We celebrated our 2023 New Teachers of the Year, 2023 Teachers of the Year, U.S. Senate Youth Program Winner and Regeneron Science Talent Search Scholars. BLACK HISTORY MONTH: We would like to recognize some of the leaders who have made a tremendous impact in our schools and shaped the history of our district. Ollie Tyler was appointed as the first African American and the first woman to serve as Superintendent of Caddo Parish Public Schools. Tyler also taught at Youree Drive Middle for 23 years and was the school's first Black Principal. Thank you for your service to Caddo Schools! #wearecaddo #theyarecaddo

Huntington High School will host a Battle of the Drumlines Competition at 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 25 inside the gym. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and tickets will be sold at the door for $8.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH: We are recognizing leaders who were changemakers for our school district and transformed its future. Rev. E. Edward Jones was the Pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and filed a lawsuit on behalf of his daughter, spearheading the desegregation of the Caddo Parish School System. MUSIC MONDAY: Congratulations to members of the Huntington High Choir for receiving Superior ratings at the Louisiana Tech Music Rally! Students competing in the Large Ensemble, SATB Quartet, Solo Vocalist Division and Piano Performance categories all earned the top honor. The Interact Club at North Caddo Magnet partnered with Geaux 4 Kids to unpack 300 pillows, backpacks, and pajamas for distribution to children involved in emergency foster care situations. Geaux Bags provide children with necessities and comfort items during an emergency transition. #wearecaddo

Atkins Elementary was named a Louisiana Comeback Campus by the Louisiana Department of Education for achieving high performance in reading and math. State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Cade Brumley visited Atkins on Thursday to congratulate students and staff on earning this prestigious honor. WEATHER UPDATE: All schools will be opened as scheduled on Wednesday. Overnight, district leadership monitored weather reports and road conditions provided by local and state agencies including Louisiana DOTD, the National Weather Service and Homeland Security. Roadways have been deemed safe by our agency partners and we look forward to seeing all of our students and staff today. Thank you for your patience as we worked across agencies to assess conditions.

District leadership is actively monitoring the weather forecast for Caddo Parish as we work with the National Weather Service. If there are any modifications needed to schedules for Wednesday, we will update you as soon as a decision is made.
